This gravel cycling tour takes you from the Atlantic beaches to the peaks of the Pyrenees, crossing iconic locations such as the Bergons Valley, the Aubisque Pass, and the unspoiled landscapes of the Bénou Plateau.

Between effort and contemplation, each day offers a full immersion in preserved nature: progressive climbs, flowing descents, panoramic ridgelines, and secret roads lead you deep into the heart of the Basque Country, ending in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.

Whether you are passionate about gravel biking, a fan of bike touring, or looking for an adventurous and exotic cycling holiday, this journey is a true invitation to explore, challenge yourself, and experience a unique adventure between ocean and mountains.

Day 1 — Biarritz → Bergons: a warm-up facing the Pyrenees ∼ 30 KM | 1000 MD+

After an 11:00 AM pickup at Lourdes train station or airport and a first meal together, you’ll set off on your bikes towards the Bergons Valley. You’ll ride along quiet, lesser-known roads through lush green landscapes, perfect for a true cycling experience immersed in nature.This first stage will give you time to find your rhythm, fine-tune your equipment and fully settle into the journey, laying the foundations for an unforgettable gravel adventure in the Pyrenees.

Day 2 — Bergons → Arette: the great Pyrenean mountain passes

Set off towards more challenging terrain with a true crossing of the Pyrenees, immersing yourself in an authentic gravel cycling adventure.

You begin by climbing back through the Bergons Valley, gradually gaining elevation as the landscape becomes more dramatic and alpine. The route then leads to the legendary Soulor Pass, a natural border between the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Hautes-Pyrénées, and a must-ride highlight of any Pyrenean cycling tour.

The journey continues towards the iconic Aubisque Pass, renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views over the surrounding mountain ranges. This section offers one of the most scenic stretches of the entire gravel bike expedition, combining effort, altitude, and awe-inspiring landscapes.

The long and rewarding descent into the Ossau Valley brings this intense day to a close. Marked by grand scenery, high mountain atmosphere, and unforgettable views, this stage embodies the spirit of a true mountain experience in the Pyrenees.

Day 3 — Arette → Issarbe: immersion in the wild Basque Country

A change of scenery as you head into the heart of the Basque Country. From Arette, you’ll ride along quiet backroads through valleys and forests before climbing up to the Issarbe plateau.The ascent opens up beautiful views over the surrounding mountains, in a wilder and more remote setting. A fantastic gravel stage in the Basque Pyrenees.

Day 4 — Issarbe → Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port: between ridgelines and Basque villages

A signature stage combining panoramic ridgelines and Basque traditions. Leaving the heights of Issarbe, you’ll ride a mix of flowing gravel tracks and quiet mountain roads, passing through typical Basque villages along the way. The day finishes in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, an iconic village at the foot of the mountains and a famous stop on the Camino de Santiago. A beautiful finish to another great day of gravel riding in the Pyrenees.

Day 5 — Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port → Biarritz: return to the ocean

Your final day of gravel riding takes you all the way back to the Atlantic Ocean, through some of the most iconic landscapes of the Basque Country. From Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, you’ll ride through charming Basque villages and rolling countryside, as the mountains gradually give way to greener hills and coastal scenery. The journey ends in Biarritz, a fitting finale to this gravel adventure between mountains and ocean. You’ll finish with a brunch at the hotel before heading to Biarritz train station at 5:00 PM.
