DAY 1: ANGLET – HENDAYE ~ 36 km / 400 m elevation gain

Meet at Transition Anglet to kick off the adventure: briefing, bike adjustments, and getting familiar with the gravel bikes. The group’s energy rises as the sea air sets the tone.

This first stage follows the stunning Atlantic coastline. From the shores of Anglet, the route heads toward the iconic Phare de Biarritz before crossing the lively center of Biarritz. A must-see stop at the spectacular Côte des Basques, a natural balcony overlooking the ocean.

The route then winds between cliffs and beaches through Bidart and Guéthary before reaching elegant Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Arrival in Hendaye facing the vastness of the ocean.

An accessible yet spectacular first day, perfect for gently immersing yourself in the Basque gravel spirit.

DAY 2 : HENDAYE - BERA — 56 km | 900 m D+

Departing from Hendaye, the route heads toward the first real climbs.

The ascent of Mont Jaizkibel offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic and the Spanish landscapes. The atmosphere gradually shifts: the ocean gives way to lush green mountains.

The route then follows a beautiful greenway winding through the mountains, punctuated by tunnels, en route to Bera. A more challenging and immersive stage, straddling France and Spain, showcasing the full diversity of the Basque Country.

Pays Basque 2 : sommets basques

DAY 3 : BERA → SAINT-ÉTIENNE-DE-BAÏGORRY — 64 km | 1900 m D+

An intense and spectacular day in the heart of the Basque mountains.

From the start in Bera, the route tackles a series of iconic passes: Col de Lizuniaga and Col de Lizarrieta.

A stop at the mysterious village of Zugarramurdi, famous for its legends, is followed by a ride to Col d’Otxondo on gravel and the impressive Grottes de Baztan.

The finale is earned with the majestic Col d’Ispeguy before descending toward Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry.

A demanding, wild, and unforgettable day — the pure soul of Basque gravel.

DAY 4 : SAINT-ÉTIENNE-DE-BAÏGORRY → SAINT-JEAN-PIED-DE-PORT— 60 km | 1400 m D+

The route plunges into the heart of the stunning Aldudes Valley, an authentic pastoral landscape.

The climb up Col du Lindus offers wide, dramatic views. Then comes a cultural highlight with a stop at the Abbey of Roncevaux, a key site on the Camino de Santiago.

Arrival in the fortified town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a gem of the Basque interior. A stage that perfectly balances raw nature and heritage.

DAY 5 : SAINT-JEAN-PIED-DE-PORT → SARE — 80 km | 1900 m D+

Heading toward the vineyards of Irouléguy before tackling the climb beneath the impressive Iparla ridges.

For the curious, there’s an optional out-and-back to an abandoned village, adding a touch of exploration to an already epic day.

The route passes through Bidarray, a renowned playground for outdoor enthusiasts, before reaching Sare, listed among the most beautiful villages in the Basque Country.

A major mountain stagewild, panoramic, and unforgettable.

EUS_LIB_Piment d'espelette

DAY 6 : SARE → ANGLET — 50 km | 500 m D+

The final day is flatter but no less spectacular.

The route passes at the foot of Souhalmendi, then crosses Ascain and Ahetze.

It then follows the towpath along the Nive River before passing through Bayonne, a historic Basque city.

Return to Anglet, between ocean and pine forests, with the satisfaction of having completed a magnificent gravel adventure in the heart of the Basque Country.

After a great day of cycling, you have just enjoyed a night of rest in your accommodation.

A delicious breakfast will help you recall the fond memories and anecdotes of your journey!
