Family adventures in Norway

Discovering Norway by bike was a dream come true for these two long-time family friends. Four adults and six children set off in the heart of Norway’s vast fjords, surrounded by endless mountain landscapes and postcard-perfect views, exactly as they had imagined. Only better. Dive into this Scandinavian adventure, tailor-made to enchant both little and grown-up explorers.

When these families reached out for a private trip in Norway, we were immediately excited about designing an accessible adventure for their young explorers. What a joy to imagine the whole crew riding along the tracks skirting Norway’s magnificent lakes and savoring local treats.

What made this trip possible? The magic of electric bikes that we offer alongside muscular bikes on our trips. With children aged 9 to 18, the priority was to make the rides enjoyable for everyone, especially the youngest ones. In the end, the girls who had doubted their cycling abilities left their worries behind and even embraced the challenge, switching off the assistance whenever they could to fully enjoy the joy of riding through such extraordinary landscapes.

From this journey through the land of the midnight sun, the families remember the peaceful immensity that defines this country which is simply mind blowing to explore by gravel bike. With its one of a kind palette of greens, whites and silvers, its mirror-like lakes and towering mountain walls shifting from blue to grey. To sum it up, a sequence of postcards.

With their Norwegian guide leading the way, an unreal feeling washed over the two families as they crossed vast high plateaus without meeting a single soul. At times, the scenery reminded them of Corsica and its wild, arid beauty. Other times, one of the dads drew parallels with the Alps. You get the picture. Add to that the typical red houses, the sweet scent of cinnamon wafting through charming villages: pure happiness.

Long descents remain etched in their memories, sometimes lasting up to 20 minutes in pristine nature without a single car in sight. The adults loved them, and so did the kids, for whom these stretches made gravel biking even more accessible. After a picnic pause along the Hemsil River, they set off again toward deep forests and shimmering lakes.

Penelope, Theodore, Catherine, Auguste, Gabrielle, Sixtine, Albin, Raphaelle, Cesar and Leopold can still picture their arrival by ferry in the Oslo harbour, where the GravelUp team greeted them with open arms. “You immediately feel that you won’t have to think about anything and can simply enjoy the experience.”
