why gravel biking is gaining popularity among women?

Freedom, nature, and empowerment. On pine-lined trails, the sound of tires on gravel replaces the roar of cars.
Claire, 37, discovered gravel biking a year ago. Since then, she’s been going on more and more rides, alone or with other cyclists, seeking adventure and connection with nature. She’s not alone: women’s gravel biking is experiencing rapid growth. Freedom, versatility, community, and a supportive spirit... this hybrid bike, blending road and off-road, is attracting more and more women. But why?

An inclusive and accessible playground

Gravel biking stands out for its simple approach. Unlike some highly technical cycling disciplines, it doesn’t require advanced skills to get started.
You ride at your own pace, without performance pressure, enjoying the scenery. The mixed routes, alternating between roads, trails, and tracks, let everyone choose their own challenges.
It’s this accessibility that appeals to many beginners, while offering seasoned athletes a varied training ground.

Freedom and nature at the heart of the practice

Gravel biking is the art of getting away. no need to stick to paved roads: forest trails, dirt paths, and coastal tracks open up to explorers.
With gravel, you choose your own route. You can set off for two hours or several days of bikepacking, with the certainty of discovering landscapes otherwise unreachable. For many women, this direct connection to nature is a powerful source of motivation.

Gear designed with women in mind

For a long time, the bike market treated cyclists uniformly, without considering morphological differences.
Today, things are changing: shorter frames, narrower handlebars, saddles adapted to female anatomy... major brands now offer “women-specific” or unisex ranges designed to improve comfort and performance.
The result: less pain, more pleasure, and therefore a greater desire to ride.

A thriving community

Beyond the bike itself, the women’s gravel scene is supported by an ever-growing network.
group rides, beginner workshops, and women-only events: all across france and europe, cyclists gather to share their experiences.
At Gravelup, we organize trips designed for everyone, from beginners to enthusiasts, to promote mutual support and confidence. this collective spirit helps break down barriers often associated with traditional cycling.

Behind the scenes of our Swiss Alps trip

Welcome to the Gantrisch Nature Park: a gravel paradise at the crossroads between Bern, Thun, and Fribourg. This little (well, actually huge) slice of heaven takes its name from the Gantrisch mountain range in the south of the park. While it’s pure bliss to hike through its forests straight out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale or to spend a night under the stars, we’ve focused on what we do best: exploring on two wheels. No marked routes here, just the freedom to follow your own path.
